Purim will be celebrated on the “The Yiddish Voice” (WUNR 1600-AM, Boston) on Wednesday, March 12, 2013, at 7:30 PM, with a discussion of humor. Interviews (in Yiddish) will be heard with the following guests:
- Sholem Beinfeld – historian and co-chief-editor of the “Comprehensive Yiddish-English Dictionary”, to discuss the recently published book “No Joke: Making Jewish Humor” by Ruth Wisse;
- Hershl Glasser – linguist, writer for the Yiddish Forward, and former Dean of the Max Weinreich Center at YIVO Institute;
- Yoely Lebovits (@Badchen) – one of the best-known entertainers performing as a singer and comedian in Yiddish today; and
- Michael Wex (@RealMichaelWex) – lecturer, performer, Yiddish language specialist, and author of the best-selling book “Born to Kvetsh” and the recently republished “Shlepping the Exile”.
The Yiddish Voice (Dos Yidishe Kol), Boston’s weekly Yiddish-language radio show, is heard on WUNR 1600 AM every Wednesday from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM and live-streamed on the Internet at www.yiddishvoice.com.
