2nd. International Festival Of Composition and Interpretation Of Yiddish Songs

Dear Friends:

The group ““OIF EIBIK YIDDISH”, is a not for profit organization, whose mission is preserving and enriching both the “Yiddish” language and the culture around it, as well as, connecting younger generations in Mexico and the world to it.

With this objective in mind, we extend this invitation to participate in the international Yiddish songwriting and interpretation contest. Participation will be open to people of any age and gender, and every kind of music genre is welcome.

In order to participate, “it is not necessary to know Yiddish, the important thing is to know it’s soul”… if help is needed in translating into Yiddish, it will be provided upon request.

The contest will be taking place on Sunday, June 14, 2015 in Mexico City, Mexico.

INTERNATIONAL CONTEST “DER IDISHER IDOL”

It is not necessary to know Yiddish to participate… the important thing is to KNOW ITS SOUL!

Guidelines:

Participation is open without restriction of age or gender, to singles or groups, who fulfil the following requirements:

1 – The sign-up period closes on April 13, 2015.  Contestants will be able to sign up through the official website:www.deridisheridol.com

2 – Participants must submit their material to the organizing committee, through the URL address where the video has been uploaded (YouTube, Dropbox, wetransfer, etc.)

3 – There will be two categories:

• Lyrical composition, (in Yiddish), using existing music.
  
• Composition of original music and lyrics (in Yiddish).
  

4 – The jury will determine the participants who make it to the final round.
5 – Participants who proceed to the final round will be announced on April 30th 2015.
6 – The final will take place at 6:00pm, on Sunday, June 14th, in Mexico City, Mexico. Finalists will be presented live.
7 – There will be a prize to the first place per category. ($750 USD, category 1, $1,000US USD. category 2).
8 – The jury’s decision will be final.

CATEGORY 1 – LYRICAL COMPOSITION, USING EXISTING MUSIC.
A) The lyrics must be original, and must be performed in Yiddish.
B) Any musical genre is acceptable.
C) The minimum length of the song must be 2:30 minutes.
D) The grading will include the quality of performance, and not only lyrics.
E) The music in the video may be performed live, or with a recorded track.
F) The deadline to submit the video is on April 13, 2015.

CATEGORY 2 – COMPOSITION OF ORIGINAL MUSIC AND LYRICS.
A) Both music and lyrics will be original and in Yiddish.
B) The minimum length of the song must be 2:30 minutes.
C) The grading will include the quality of performance, and not only lyrics.
D) The music in the video may be performed live, or with a recorded track.
E) The deadline to submit the video is on April 13, 2015.

GRADING WILL INCLUDE:

• Performance/interpretation.
  
• Innovative.
  
• Stage presence.
