This year marks the 20th anniversary of the signing of the peace treaty between Israel and Jordan, an enduring peace initiated by Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and King Hussein bin Talal, may their memories be for a blessing.
In honor of this auspicious occasion, the Yitzhak Rabin Center hosted a commemorative event on October 26th, 2014; the actual date of the signing.
Speakers included: Dalia Rabin, Chair, Yitzhak Rabin Center,
Minister of Defense Moshe Ya’alon, Walid Obeidat Jordanian Ambassador to Israel, Daniel Shapiro, United States Ambassador to Israel and Elyakim Rubinstein, Judge, Israel Supreme Court
Moreover, songs were performed by Sivan Ganon and video footage featuring the process was aired.
The evening attended by close to 400 people reminds us of what is possible when two leaders build a relationship based on trust with a vision towards peace and prosperity for their nations.
Both King Hussein and Yitzhak Rabin understood and took the risks to safeguard Israel and Jordan. They are sorely missed, now more than ever.
