Diario Judío México - Letters
I need to express my views regarding the Immigration havoc currently occurring throughout the USA . First, as a Mexican, my heart breaks upon seeing all these people stranded at the borders. Second, as a Jew, it reminds and frightens me of F. Roosevelt’s decision to close immigration and prohibit the St Louis to arrive at any USA ports. This anti Semitic event caused a great number of unnecessary deaths to Jewish passengers as they were returned to Europe.
Moreover, as a human being, it is devastating to see hard-working, innocent people torn away from their families and homes.
I understand that the immigration process must abide by legal terms. However, I also believe that the opportunity for immigration must be more available under certain situations, especially when it comes to USA neighbors.
Finally, I find it beyond terrible and totally unacceptable for illegal immigrants to be persecuted at their place of work. I would not hold the same views for those illegal immigrants with criminal histories. Many of these individuals have families and even children who are already American. To arrest and deport them is a travesty!
