New York Yiddish theater stars and mavens Shane Baker and Amanda Miryem-Khaye Seigel guide you through the gamut of Yiddish culture in this eye-opening, entertaining, and educational program.
You might know Yiddish is the language of the kitchen and juicy witty curses, but did you know it’s also the language of love and upsetting the social order? That you could study botany and mathematics in Yiddish? That young people today all over the world are speaking Yiddish so their parents won’t understand? Using song, comedy, and even serious truths, your special guides will present highlights (and lowlights!) of Yiddish literature and song and then field questions from the audience. In collaboration with the L.A.-based California Institute for Yiddish Culture and Language and the NYC Congress for Jewish Culture. This program is suitable for all ages and the Yiddish-challenged!
