The gorgeous new mikvah designed by and built with the guidance of the Rabbi Shia Hershkowitz from Brooklyn, New York, a chassidic rabbi, which one of his missions in life is the building of mikvaot.
Was inaugurated on Saturday, December 9th, at 8:00 P.M. at the Centro Social Israelita de Baja California, A.C. in Tijuana.
It was a major stepping stone in the life of the centro.
Now the centro has a kosher restaurant from sunday to friday (friday, of course, until 2:00 p.m.) featuring on wednesday at meal time, with music, alternating a professional marimba player with a professional piano player where you listen to popular mexican and american music in a jewish ambience.
The centro has five rooms as hotel accomodations (two of them are currently filled). And of course, now a brand new mikvah.
The motto of the centro is the servicing of all jews including reform, conservative and orthodox, or those with no religious affiliation. And the meals are glatt kosher.
As you entered the building, your were regalled with a video of original children’s (close to 100) drawings from the contest where the children were to draw an original (which could be symbolic) mikvah with the following prizes being given: first prize a money order of $ 250.00 dollars, second prize a ticket to disneyland and two third prizes consisting each of a ticket to the San Diego Balboa Zoo. This video was to the tune of the following songs: artic menta, am yisroel chai, and of´n pritpichik. Music filled the air.
Just as you came in, there was an exhibit to the right, in the dining room, of the children´s original drawings, ornamentally displayed.
Most of the drawings were from those children who participated in the contest including the ones from the soille San Diego Hebrew Day School, and those from the San Diego Jewish Academy.
After enjoying the children’s drawings, as you walked down the hall to look at the mikvah, the marimba was playing (as the song says: ´´maderas que cantan con voz de mujer’’ ¨¨woods that sings with the voice of a woman¨¨¨). The marimba was playing mexican songs in the ambience of the jewish mikvah beautifull displayed. At the mikvah, you were given a two page booklet which mentions the usefulness of the mikvah, it was either in Spanish or English with appropriate illustrations written by the reknown San Diego sofer stam Alberto I. Attia.
You then, walked up to the social hall where the party continued its course.
