The Defiant Requiem is a moving multi-media concert-drama that tells the story of the courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (Terezin) during World War II who performed the famous Verdi Requiem Mass while experiencing the depths of human degradation and facing imminent death. With only a smuggled score, these prisoners performed the famous oratorio sixteen times, including one performance before a Red Cross delegation. As an act of defiance and resistance to their Nazi captors, the performance allowed the prisoners to “sing to the Nazi’s what they could not say to them.”
