At least four people were killed on Thursday, including two policemen, after an explosives-laden car rammed two police vehicles in Mexico’s Ciudad Juarez, officials said.
The attack occurred after the arrest of Jesus Armando Acosta Guerrero, also known as “El 35,” the alleged leader of the organized crime organization called “La Linea” that coordinates and operates kidnappings, extortion, and drug trafficking, according to federal officials.
Thursday’s attack killed a federal agent, a local police officer, and a rescue agent. Seven officers and two civilians were injured. On Friday a doctor died of his wounds.
Local media said hitmen killed a local police officer to ambush federal agents. When agents, paramedics and the press arrived on the scene, a car rammed the units. Shortly afterward, a powerful explosion occurred.
According to military officials, the car contained 22 pounds (10 kilos) of C4 plastic explosives.
The Federal Secretary of Public Security on Friday morning confirmed that explosives were used in the attack at around 7:30 p.m. local time. Mexico’s Attorney General is investigating the attack.
